Ideas for simple upgrades to enhance the exterior of your home before the snow flies.
A home with curb appeal draws people in. It’s that first impression that makes them want to see more, and it’s especially important when selling a home. It may seem daunting, but adding curb appeal doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are five ideas for adding curb appeal to your home:
Install New Exterior Light Fixtures
Exterior light fixtures not only provide light when it’s dark outside, but they can be stylish by day as well. If your home’s exterior lights are drab, perhaps it’s time for an upgrade. There are many styles of exterior light fixtures – from casual to elegant and everything in between. They are readily available at big box stores and lighting retailers, and installation is fairly simple with a few basic tools.
Make Your Entry Shine
Your front door is the pathway into your home. It’s where your guests enter and depart, so it should reflect the pride you have in your home. A simple way to spruce up your front entry this fall is simply polishing the door handles, hinges and kick plate. If you really want it to be snazzy, paint the exterior of the front door your favorite color!
Add a Lamp Post
Lamp posts can be strategically placed to illuminate landscaping or provide light near the driveway, sidewalks or street. Not only are they functional for lighting purposes, but they add a certain nostalgia that only lamp posts can. And when it comes to decorating for the seasons, a lamp post can easily become the “centerpiece” of your front yard.
Upgrade Your Mailbox
Mailboxes are easy to overlook, but they’re another fixture that can easily up the ante on your curb appeal. If your mailbox is looking shabby, you can replace it with a new stylish kit that includes the post and mailbox (available at big box and hardware stores). Or if you’re handy and creative, you can cut, trim, sand and paint your own decorative post and mailbox. Either way, it will be a great improvement – and you’ll enjoy getting the mail more.
Spruce Up Your Landscaping
A well-groomed landscape is inviting – so in the coming months before the snow flies, get out your gloves, hedge trimmer and pruning tools and give your front yard a spruce up. You’ll enjoy it all winter, and in the spring, you’ll be glad it’s done!
